The Right Eye of Clint digs up the embodied ruins of Western film tropes that have been lying dormant in my thinking and doing, and that I wish to challenge. I came to them by way of wearing Clint Eastwood’s right eye. His eye is a camouflage that initiates me into a worldview/body that I don’t fully understand, yet perceive to be leaning on me. This lean produces pressure and I train myself to work with pressure like a horse, as an edge, as a precarious material, an atmosphere, and a feeling of being watched. Hiding in plain sight, I extract scenes from the stage work The Right Eye of Clint that I made in Toronto and reconstitute them in Los Angeles: one of the immortalized landing sites that encapsulates the mythology of the West, and the desire for transformation and new beginnings. I am cognizant of making the westward trek towards this location and the
complex history of this path.

Andrea Spaziani (she/her) generates choreographic scores by combining movement, speaking and writing in a stream of improvisation. She is preoccupied by the question ‘why do I think the way that I do?’ and attempts to answer it by bringing consciousness to biases, and then using them as material in order to transform their influence. Andrea has been living between Toronto, New York City, and Marfa, Texas. She received an MFA in Creative Practice from the Transart Institute / Plymouth University in 2016. www.andreaspaziani.com

Matt Smith is a Toronto-based musician, composer, sound engineer and dramaturg. Alongside his recording project Prince Nifty, Matt makes music for theatre and dance, bars and clubs, headphones and all things between. Most recently he has collaborated on and composed music for Andrea Spaziani’s Silver Venus and The Right Eye of Clint (Dancemakers), Bad New Days’ Paolozzapedia (Theatre Passe Muraille) and Toronto Dance Theatres Marienbad. Matt has recently produced and engineered recordings for Lido Pimienta, Bernice and Isla Craig.
